What does an AI recruiter do?

Short answer

An AI recruiter does the searching and sorting a recruiter would do. You describe the role in plain words, it searches a pool of candidates, ranks the best matches and shows why each one fits. You still decide who to interview and who to hire.

What an AI recruiter actually does

Think of it as the first half of a recruiter’s job: everything that happens before anyone gets on a call.

  • Reads your brief. Role, country, language, hours, budget and must-have skills, written the way you would say them.
  • Searches a candidate pool. Hirespot searches its own database of 400,000+ candidates around the world.
  • Ranks the matches. The people who fit your brief best come first.
  • Shows the evidence. A CV and a short video intro, so you can judge in minutes.
  • Books the interview. You pick a time from the candidate’s profile.

What it doesn’t do

An AI recruiter narrows the field. It doesn’t replace your judgment.

  • It can’t tell you who will fit your team. That comes from conversations.
  • It doesn’t make the hire. You interview, test and decide.
  • It doesn’t negotiate offers or handle contracts.

AI recruiter, recruiter or job board?

  • Who searches. AI recruiter: the software, across its database. Recruiter: a person, across their network. Job board: nobody, you wait for applicants.
  • How you brief it. AI recruiter: a message in plain words. Recruiter: a call or a job description. Job board: a job post.
  • What you get. AI recruiter: a ranked list of matches. Recruiter: a shortlist, often after days or weeks. Job board: a pile of applications to sort.
  • How you usually pay. AI recruiter: a subscription or credits. Recruiter: a share of first-year salary. Job board: a fee per post.

How to brief an AI recruiter

The more specific the message, the better the matches. Here is a brief that works:

Bookkeeper in Colombia or Mexico who knows QuickBooks. English and Spanish, US Eastern hours, full time, up to $2,000 a month.

It covers the five things that matter most:

  1. The role and the main tool or skill.
  2. The countries or regions you are open to.
  3. The languages they need.
  4. The hours they must overlap with yours.
  5. Your monthly budget.

How to judge the matches

  • Watch the video intro before reading the CV. Communication shows in the first minute.
  • Give your top two a short paid test on a real task.
  • Ask every candidate the same questions so the answers compare.
  • Check references before you make an offer.

Questions

Are companies actually using AI recruiters?

Yes. A 2022 SHRM survey found that about a quarter of organizations already used automation or AI in HR work, including hiring, and large employers used it most.

Will an AI recruiter replace my recruiter?

It replaces the searching and sorting. Many teams keep a recruiter for senior roles and for closing offers.

Can an AI recruiter search in a specific country?

Hirespot can. Name the countries in your message, like “a bookkeeper in Colombia or Mexico”, and Spotter only shows people from there.
